Today was a day for celebrating! Morgan, Sarah, and Jenna all completed their degrees in August, but we finally got to celebrate their accomplishment with the College of Engineering convocation ceremony today. Congratulations all!

Dr. Gomillion is collaborating with Dr. Dominik May and CMBE graduate student Ryan Devine on a study evaluating the efficacy of simulated labs for engineering. Ryan and Dr. May visited Dr. Gomillion’s Tissue Engineering course today to discuss a Labster simulated lab with her students.

October 24-27, 2019
Dr. Gomillion and lab members Damion Dixon and Daniel Shah had the pleasure of attending the annual Institute on Teaching and Mentoring in Atlanta. Professional development and networking opportunities were plentiful for both Damion, as a new SREB Doctoral Scholar Fellowship awardee, and Daniel, as participant in the Grant and Fellowship Writing Bootcamp.

Dr. Gomillion was the invited guest speaker for the University of Florida Biomedical Engineering Department seminar series. Those gators were very welcoming to an SEC rival!

Our busy summer continues! Dr. Gomillion was accepted to participate in the Programs to Increase Diversity Among Individuals Engaged in Health-Related Research (PRIDE) Fellowship program. PRIDE is a mentored research program funded by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. Dr. Gomillion was accepted to participate in the Functional and Translational Genomics program held at Augusta University. Learn more about the program here!

Whew! It’s been a busy, busy summer, so we thought it great to relax a little…at least for one afternoon. Members of Gomillion Lab and the Harbor Lights Lab from the UGA Vet School joined together for their 1st annual Lab Party at Sandy Creek Park. It was HOT, but the rain held off for an enjoyable afternoon of fellowship and fun, highlighted by a round of shoe toss!

The lab was well-represented at the annual Regenerative Bioscience Center (RBC) Fellows Symposium held this afternoon in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Science ADS building. Lab members Damion and Sarah presented posters of their work while engaging in great conversation with others. Nice job!


April 2-6, 2019
We have another successful meeting under our belts this week. The 2019 Society For Biomaterials meeting was held in Seattle, WA. Dr. Gomillion co-organized and moderated a panel for Career Catalysis: Strategies for Engaged and Effective Teaching, which was well attended and highlighted by great discussion with the panelists. Lab member Jenna presented her work (in collaboration with undergraduate Megan) during the poster sessions, and also helped man Sarah’s poster that was presented there as well. Overall, it was a great time.

This has been a busy week for Gomillion Lab members. While Sarah was presenting in DC, Morgan and Jenna were busy presenting their work at the College of Engineering 2019 Research Showcase. Great work by all students was on display during this event. Nice job!

Gomillion Lab was well represented at multiple events in Washington, DC this week. Congratulations to lab member Sarah Chaji for winning 1st Place for Graduate Oral Presentations in Technology and Engineering at the Emerging Researchers National (ERN) Conference in STEM! Great job, Sarah!

Sarah wasn’t the only Gomillion Lab member presenting at ERN this week. Dr. Jeff Rapp and Juliane Webb, faculty and student from Athens Technical College, respectively, conducted research in our lab last fall through the NSF-supported CMaT Research Experience and Mentoring Program and were also at ERN presenting their work.

Sarah also presented her work at the Bridge to Doctorate Conference earlier in the week. Nice work by everyone!

Dr. Gomillion was invited to participate in the Speaker Series at Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology today, where she talked to 9th grade students about “Manufacturing Cells for Therapeutic Purposes”. The students and school were quite impressive!
